Moderation

The golden rule is moderation in all things.

Nothing in excess.

Moderation is best.

Let him know to choose the mean and avoid extremes on either side, as far as possible, for this is the way of happiness.

From the forces that all creatures bind, who overcomes himself his freedom finds.

Learn to conquer your belly, sloth, luxury, and rage.

Master anger.

The hardest victory is the victory over self.

Victory is a thing of the will.

Who cannot limit himself can never be able to write.

We fluctuate long between love and hatred before we arrive at tranquility.

A man may live more carefree in poverty than in justly dispensed abundance. Enjoyment conducted according to reason is more arduous than abstinence. Moderation is a virtue that gives more trouble than suffering does.

Moderation in temper is always a virtue, but moderation in principle is always a vice.
